Top Trend: Off The Shoulders

Sonia Zmihi,

Ladies! This summer, dare to bare your shoulders. From tops and shirts to dresses and jumpers, it seems like flaunting your shoulders is the trendiest way to show a little skin this season. Looking utterly feminine, the so called Bardot silhouette – named after the glamorous French icon, Brigitte Bardot bien sûr  — would flatter any body type. Unlike abs or legs, shoulders are an easy area to expose — subtly sexy but never too revealing. Here are a few examples of the shoulder bearing ensembles from the Spring/Summer 2017 collections that you can immediately start pulling inspiration from.

First up — the Monse’s flowing blouse worn over large beige culottes. Designed to leave much more than just the clavicle exposed, the elongated sleeves and fold over stripped edge design of the top gives a lightness and modernity to the look. At Balenciaga, shoulders are revealed via a flamboyant fire engine red halter dress contrasted by sky high blue boots that are now part of the DNA of the fashion house. An all primary color outfit to make your skin pop!

Now if you want to go for a more romantic take on this trend, then Giambattista Valli is your guy. His off the shoulders maxi dress, with elegant florals prints and black details, will be the perfect choice for your summer parties or to wander around the streets of Sevilla.

Inspired by the David Lynch’s movie, Wild at Heart, Joseph Altuzarra created a stylish silhouette this season. One that had a hint of bohemian to it when he combined a simple OTS red carmine top with high waisted ruffle hemmed pants, accessorized to perfection with creole earings and a floral belt. Another movie-inspired outfit came from Topshop Unique. The brand’s black see through dress (like Jonh Travolta in the movie Grease) screams Sandy! With its punk and New Wave 80’s collection the London label takes us back to one of the most famous scene in the history of musicals, where Olivia John Newton appears in a spellbinding all black outfit that shows if her shoulders as she rubs out her cigarette on the ground.

And last but not least, Jour/né redefines street chic with its blush pink off the shoulder dress. The talented minds behind the rising Parisian label, paired a roomy ruffled shirt with a red hoodie used as a belt to enhance the waist and finished off the look with white ankle socks and pointy red heels.

Hope we convinced you to show your clavicles to the world and wake up the Flamenco dancer that’s been laying dormant inside you    💃💃 . Now is really not the time to give our top trend the cold shoulder!
