Top Trend : CHECKERS

Sonia Zmihi,

For Pre-fall 2017, check patterns are anything but square. Weather it is an an intricate gingham, houndstooth, plaid, or an oversized tartan– the geometric print  seems to be having a major fashion moment as many designers, from Nicolas Ghesquière at Louis Vuitton to Prabal Gurung, showed collections full of grid lines.
In vibrant or muted shades, itty-bitty to giant sizes, we selected the most ingenious ways to incorporate chic checkers to your daily outfits. Check it out 😉

We’re starting with Ports 1961, where Natasa Cagalj offered up a playful collection filled with comfortable and voluminous separates cut in the coziest materials.  For instance, a blanketlike fabric was transformed into a plaid suit composed by an oversized jacket and relaxed pants whose hems are emprisonned in lace up sandales. Another easy way into the trend, would be Rag and Bone blown-out black-and-white gingham board shorts and an off-the-shoulder top. The inspirations for this look are timeless so wether you’re into the typical French Riviera vibe (hello Brigitte Bardot!) or more of a Vans 90’s sk8ter girl (hi Avril Lavigne), this will suit you just fine.

If there is one item you can’t and shouldn’t do without this season, it is those loose-fitting long coats that have plaids happily lodged in all muted shades possible. Not only keep you warm but also instantaneously upgrade any of your looks.  Tibi played with the noble print type, Prince of Wales checks, and added electric blue lights and fringes, while Phillip Lim presented a burgundy, navy and black oversized checkers version of the outwear piece worn over a simple white dress and some ranger boots.

At Prabal Gurung, we were stunned by a very original take on the trend. An all black and white square patterned outfit. The lines combined with fringed hems make the loose pants and extra-long sleeves of the top make the silhouette look even more elongated.
We have seen a lot of classic interpretation of the trend but one should never be affraid to play a little mix and match with prints. For examples, at Miu Miu we observed plenty of checks both on the black and yellow tweed skirt and the khaki sweater, giving a bold harlequin effect to the colourful outfit.

This fall, checkers pattern is going far beyond the chess board to invade our wardrobe, making us all feel like Queens. Checkmate!
