A Quick Q&A with GLAMSQUAD CEO Amy Shecter

Jessica Michault,

In June of las year Amy Shecter was named CEO of GLAMSQUAD, one of the leading “on the go” beauty provider brands in the United States.  Shecter might have more than 20 years of experience helping up and coming brands develop their growth potential and set cross-channel strategies and goals. But with GLAMSQUAD she also brings the expertise of being a longstanding and loyal client of the company.

Here she talks about her goals for the company, which some have described as  “the Uber of Beauty”, how GLAMSQUAD’s success comes down to its expert staff and which treatment she can’t live without.

You came on board as the CEO of GLAMSQUAD last year. What was your first order of business?

I came to GLAMSQUAD as a ‘power user’ of the brand.  As a client, I spent a great deal of time talking to the beauty professionals who came to my home about their jobs and the company, I thought it would be an incredible opportunity to be a part of a disruptive business that is so relevant today.  I was fascinated by the “on demand” nature of the business and the many ways the brand could expand.  I always thought it would be an incredible brand to build as it has so many areas of white space.

When I came on board as CEO, it was important for me to create a clear vision for our goals and objectives while also creating a sense of community for our employees, our Beauty Professionals and most importantly, our clients. We are positioning Glamsquad as a next generation Beauty Brand and you will see that unfold over the next year.

What sets GLAMSQUAD apart from its competitors?

GLAMSQUAD distinguishes itself from its competitors in many ways —first and foremost, we are a beauty brand…We put a great deal of effort into properly screening and assessing the talent and expertise of our team before they work with our clients.  We also have a team of talented Beauty Experts that work with our Beauty Professionals to ensure that we are capturing the top trends and translating them for our clients.  Our rigorous vetting, along with the skill-building and trend masterclasses we offer our beauty professionals on an ongoing basis, makes our team the best in the business.

We strive to empower women to experience beauty on their own terms.  We believe that when you feel amazing you make amazing things happen.

The GLAMSQUAD app

The GLAMSQUAD app

You have mentioned in the past that a GLAMSQUAD appointment is more that just a service, that you provide an experience. Can you go into a bit more detail about that.

Yes!  Having GLAMSQAUD provide hair, make up and nails in the comfort of your home, office, hotel, gym, club or wherever you need it is an amazing experience that feels luxurious but is not cost prohibitive   Our app-based beauty service sends professional hair stylists, makeup artists and nail technicians to you – anywhere, any time. Appointments are booked via the GLAMSQAUD app or website anywhere from 1 hour before the desired appointment time, to 30 days in advance.

With packed schedules, we have found women appreciate our services that can be conveniently done wherever they may be. We have perfected our services so that beauty professionals work in tandem so you can get hair, makeup and nails all at once, and be done in under an hour. We continue to strive to service women whenever and wherever in order to make them look great and feel better.

What is the key thing you look for when you hire a new Beauty Pro to the staff?

We look for those individuals who have a professional intelligence, are talented, reliable and graceful in how they interact with clients. Our beauty professionals are extensively educated in their craft with 5-10 years of industry expertise before they sign up for GLAMSQAUD, from red carpets and runways to editorial pages and celebrity clients. They are all rigorously vetted to guarantee high quality results with every booking. Our beauty professionals truly are the best in the business.

Where do you see the most potential for growth of the company, perhaps creating a private label offering along the lines of Drybar?

With the foundation of the brand being a service that comes to you and offers ultimate convenience, our focus at the moment is on market and service expansion.

If you had do choose just one of the Glam Squad treatments (hair, makeup, nails) which one could you not live without? Definitely hair…I love trying new things and being experimental with my hair…I love talking the my beauty professional and getting their creative recommendations.
