Piece of the Week: The Gucci Fanny Pack

On Monday designer Alessandro Michele presented his latest Gucci cruise collection in Florence, Italy to the movers and shakers of the fashion industry. The line up was a continuation of the designer’s eclectic and whimsical work. But of all the fantastical accessories that were spotted on the catwalk, it was the Gucci fanny pack that looks to be next big thing for the brand. Picking up where the success of the brand’s fur trimmed slippers, knuckle duster rings and outrageous eyewear left off.

Truth be told the fanny pack has been having a bit of a renaissance moment of late. The actor Dwayne  (The Rock) Johnson who apparently is the most popular man in American and is reportedly running for president of the United States in 2020, actually got the ball rolling back in 2014. That year he posted a #thowbackthursday photo of himself as a young wrestler sporting the classy combo of a fanny pack, black turtleneck and thick silver chain necklace. Needless to say, it created quite a buzz. He captioned the image “Fanny pack and lean take it to a whole other level… #90sRock #WTF #BuffLesbian”. Then last year The Rock and The Fanny Pack met again in the film Central Intelligence, where he sported the handy accessory throughout much of movie.

And now Asos is also getting in on the action. The company has come out with a line up of fanny packs in a number of different colors, prints and motifs just in time for vacation season. So the only thing left to do now is decide which fanny pack is the right fit for you this summer.
