Piece of the Week: The Dauphin Collection I Cuff

Actress Rose Byrne arrived at the Met Gala on Monday wearing a red Ralph Lauren dress and striking Dauphin jewelry.

This week the epicenter of avant-garde fashion was the Met Gala on Monday. The red carpet looks were more OTT than usual thanks to the subject of this year’s exhibition, designer Rei Kawakubo. It is the first time since 1983, when Yves Saint Laurent was the focus,  that a living designer has been honored by the Met’s Costume Institute. And the designer’s uniquely artistic approach to fashion turned the red carpet gala opening event, hosted by Anna Wintour, into a a visual fashion feast for the eyes.

One striking guest who got a sneak peak of the “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons : Art of the In-Between” exhibit was the Australian actress Rose Byrne. She turned up for the evening in a red Ralph Lauren dress with a seriously plunging neckline and cut out back.

However our eyes honed in on her equally airy jewelry from Dauphin. She picked a pair of the brand’s Fluid earrings as well as a ring and matching cuff from designer Charlotte Dauphin de la Rochefoucauld’s Collection I line.

But it was the Dauphin cuff bracelet that really sealed the deal when it came to creating a total look that highlighted the graphic beauty of Byrne’s denuded ensemble. The cuff, that rounds out away from the wrist into a cylindrical shape, was crafted from blue gold and outlined in black diamonds. The open work of this piece cleverly echoed the cutaway design of the dress and underlined how the actresses own milky white skin could play an active role in the success of her outfit.

The cuff was the perfect example of how sometimes less really can be more.
